In June of 2010, we lost a very special family member to pancreatic cancer. When Jay was first diagnosed, we knew very little about the disease. The statistics show that it is the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths among both men and women. The 1-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is 24% and the overall 5-year survival rate is only 5%.
Our goal is to make a difference by raising awareness in the fight against pancreatic cancer while celebrating Jay’s life and many others who have battled such a menacing disease.
In response to our family’s walk, to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer in November 2009, Jay sent us the following email.
“I have to say I’m touched by the effort everyone is putting into Sunday’s event in my name. But know that you’re walking for all those people I see every week in much worse shape and in more dire need of services than I. Cancer is an insidious disease that affects so many people. I believe there is a reason for everything and maybe our new found collective awareness and the good that will come from Sunday’s walk is the reason for my circumstances.”
‘“I’m blessed to have such a caring family and love you all deeply. Have fun on Sunday!”
Please join us as we carry on Jay’s spirit of compassion and hope!
